E. David Cook

Professor E. David Cook is Fellow and Chaplain of Green College, Director of the Whitefield Institute in Oxford and the first Holmes Professor of Faith and Learning at Wheaton College. He holds a B.A. (summa cum laude) from Arizona State University, a M.A. (First Class Honours) from Edinburgh University, a Ph.D from New College, Edinburgh, a M.A. from Oxford University, and a D.Litt. from Gordon College, Wenham. He taught for six years at St. John's College and the University of Nottingham and has been at Oxford since 1979 teaching medical ethics, philosophy, theology and Christian ethics.

He is founding Director of the Whitefield Institute which funds and supports research in theology, ethics, and education. He is a member of the U.K. Xenotransplantation Authority, the Council of Europe Xenotranspantation Advisory Group, the Archbishops' Medical Ethics Committee, The Central Oxford Research Ethics Committee, and The John Radcliffe Hospital Ethics Committee. He is a regular broadcaster on national radio and television on medical and moral issues and has written extensively in the area.

He is heavily involved in the medical ethical issues at the beginning and end of life, genetics, resource allocation, gerontology, research ethics, consent, and confidentiality.

He is married and has two grown up children and one grandson. He and his wife are members of Abingdon Baptist Church.
