Gregory W. Rutecki

Fellow

Gregory W. Rutecki, M.D., is the Director of Medical Education at Mount Carmel Health System, Columbus, Ohio.

He was the E. Stephen Kurtides Chair of Medical Education and Residency Program Director at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare and Professor of Medicine at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. Following a B.S in Biology, Honors Program at De Paul University (1970), he received his M.D. cum laude from the University of Illinois in Chicago (1974). He served as an Internal Medicine Resident and Fellow in kidney diseases at the Ohio State University Hospital (1974-1978) and completed his training in kidney diseases at the University of Minnesota (1978-1980). Dr. Rutecki is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Board of Nephrology (1977,1980).

Dr. Rutecki transitioned from the full time practice of nephrology to a teaching role in primary care, renal diseases, and ethics in 1992. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, was given the George W. Joost Award for outstanding clinical teaching at Northwestern University (2001), and received the title "Master Teacher" at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (1996-1999). His bioethical interests have included the definition of death in transplantation, education of students and internal medicine residents in professionalism, and care for the dying.

Dr. Rutecki has been involved in an educational mission outreach to Simferopol in the Ukraine as part of his prior role as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Kentucky Christian College. He is a member of the Physicians' Resource Council for Focus on the Family. He and his wife of 26 years, Jan, have two sons, Jared and John.
