David E. SmithFellowDavid E. Smith, M.D. is a clinical cardiologist in Little Rock, Arkansas. He received his B.S. in chemistry from Harding University and M.D. and internal medicine training from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He has been a cardiology fellow and faculty member at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he continues to be a clinical assistant professor of medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology, and The Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity. He was a founder of and serves on the staff of Heart Clinic Arkansas, a 24 person cardiology specialty group. Dr. Smith received his M.A. in Bioethics (summa cum laude) from Trinity International University. He teaches an introductory course in bioethics for senior premedical students each fall at Harding University where he has been previously recognized as Distinguished Alumnus. He remains active in teaching cardiology and clinical ethics to University of Arkansas senior medical students and cardiology fellows. He has taught a Wednesday night medical student Bible study and ethics discussion class for over 25 years. He is chairman of the ethics committee and ethics consultant at the Baptist Medical Center. He serves on the board of The Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity. Dr. Smith is a deacon of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ and is chairman of the missions committee. He was a founder and is chairman of the Haiti Christian Development Project which oversees agricultural, educational, micro-loan, and medical development projects in Haiti. He has led short-term medical missions with senior medical students and residents to Haiti for two decades. He also serves on the board of the International Health Care Foundation.
