CONTINUING EDUCATION
Continuing Medical Education Credit for Physicians
This activity has been planned and
implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the
joint sponsorship of the Christian Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA), and
The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity. CMDA is accredited by the ACCME
to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Christian
Medical Association designates this educational activity for a maximum of
32.25 hours in category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition
Award (11.25 hours for the conference only and 32.25 hours for the Institute which
includes the Conference). Each physician should claim only those hours of credit
that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
CE credit must be requested before the end of the
conference March 8, 2008.
For Nurses
A Certificate of Attendance will be issued
upon request to be used for continuing education and is available through
Nurses Christian Fellowship for conference and/or institute attendance.
Please sign up at the NCF booth during the conference.
CEU Credit
CEU units available through Trinity
International University. 11.25 Contact Hours will be awarded for participation in
the Conference and 32.25 Contact Hours for participation in the Conference and
Institute.
ACADEMIC CREDIT
Hours can be credited toward degree programs
at Trinity (relocation to Trinity not required) or can be transferred to
other institutions. Academic credit cannot be applied for after the event.
All courses will be held at the Grace Inn Conference Center, Phoenix,
Arizona.

Wrap-Around Conference Courses March 6-8, 2008
A Wrap-Around Conference Course can be taken
in addition to an Institute. Graduate-level (2 or 3 semester hours) and
undergraduate-level (3 semester hours) wrap-around courses provide an
additional academic perspective on the conference. Dennis Hollinger PhD
(graduate level) and Joyce Shelton PhD (undergraduate level) will lead the
courses. Courses include additional class meetings in conjunction with the
conference, but the bulk of the content will be the conference itself.
Readings prior to the conference and a project following will be required.
Institute Courses: March 3-6, 2008
The Intensive or Advanced Institute can be
taken for 3 or 4 semester hours of graduate credit or 3 hours of undergraduate
credit. Course instructors are the Institute directors. Institutes involve
assignments before and after the class time.
Conference Will
Equip Participants to:

Understand the clinical and social experience of aging, especially
in the American context.

Anticipate developments in the near future of healthcare, science,
biotechnology, medical law, and the impact on humanity.

Appreciate the medical, social and cultural context in which death
is experienced.

Prepare to address the current and future challenges of aging and
the quest for immortality
-
Identify the assumptions behind various strategies for immortality,
including transhumanism.
-
Learn ways that palliative care, hospice, and other modalities can
reframe the crises associated with the experience of dying.
-
Gain an awareness of national, state, and international developments
in the legal status of assisted suicide and euthanasia.
-
Develop effective strategies for facing the ethical, legal, and
social implications of aging and the pursuit of immortality.
