Conference Summary:
A major
national/international conference providing participants with the latest
information on where the emerging field of neuroscience is headed. Plan to attend not only to get the latest updates
on key developments in biotechnology but also to receive very practical
information on the ways that various technologies are changing the practice
of health care and the lives of patients—and the current and emerging
ethical challenges that must be faced in the process.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Continuing Medical Education Credit for Physicians
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the
Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing
Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Christian
Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA), and the Center for Bioethics and Human
Dignity. CMDA is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical
education for physicians. The Christian Medical Association designates this
educational activity for a maximum of 36 hours in category 1 credit toward
the AMA Physician's Recognition Award (12 hours for conference only and
up to 36
hours for Institute which includes Conference). Each physician should claim
only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational
activity.
Continuing Medical Education Credit For Nurses
A Certificate of Attendance will be issued upon request to be used for
continuing education and is available through Nurses Christian Fellowship
for conference and/or institute attendance. Please sign up at the NCF booth
during the conference.
Continuing Legal Education Credit for Attorneys
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the
Illinois State Bar Association. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued
upon request to be used for continuing education and which can be submitted
to individual state bar associations for the credit to be issued.
CE credit must be requested before the end of the conference July 15,
2006.
CEU Credit
CEU units available through Trinity International University--Division of
Open Studies. 12 Contact Hours will be awarded for participation in
Conference and 36 Contact Hours for participation in Conference and
Institute
ACADEMIC CREDIT
Hours can be credited toward degree programs at Trinity (relocation to
Trinity not required) or can be transferred to other institutions. Academic
credit cannot be applied for retroactively after the event. All courses will
be held at the Deerfield, Illinois campus of Trinity International
University.

To receive academic credit for the Summer Institutes,
Conference Wrap-Around, or Seminars:
If you are currently enrolled in the M.A. Bioethics Program, you must
register for academic credit through Trinity.
However, if you are not currently enrolled in the M.A. Bioethics program,
but would like to take the summer Institutes, Conference, or Seminars for
course credit, you must complete the Visiting Student application, available
for download at
http://trinet.tiu.edu/extension/. Submit the Visiting Student
Application along with the $25 processing fee and transcript to Gayle Hannan
at the Extension Branch.
Once you have completed the Visiting Student Application, you must complete
the CBHD Course Registration form available at
http://trinet.tiu.edu/extension/pdfs/CBHD Course Reg Form.pdf. Please
submit the Course Registration form with tuition to The Center for Bioethics
and Human Dignity at 2065 Half Day Road, Bannockburn, IL 60015.
Wrap-Around Conference Courses (July 13-15, 2006)
A Wrap-Around Conference Course can be taken in addition to an Institute.
Graduate-level (2 or 3 semester hours) and undergraduate-level (3 semester
hours) wrap-around courses provide an additional academic perspective on the
conference. Dennis Hollinger, Ph.D. (graduate level) and Joyce Shelton,
Ph.D. (undergraduate level) will lead the courses.
Courses include additional class meetings in conjunction with the
conference, but the bulk of the content will be the conference itself.
Readings prior to the conference and a project following will be required.
Institute Courses (July 10 -15, 2006)
The Intensive, Advanced, or Engaging the World Through Bioethics Institute
can be taken for 3 or 4 semester hours of graduate credit. The
Pre-Med/Undergrad Institute can be taken for 3 semester hours of
undergraduate credit. Course instructors are the Institute directors.
Institute involve assignments before and after the institute sessions.
Post-Conference Seminar Course (July 17-19, 2006)
The Bioethics and the Church or Cutting Edge of Bioethics Seminar can be
taken for 2 or 3 semester hours of graduate credit. The instructor for each
course is the seminar director. Reading prior to the seminar sessions and a
project following will be required.
