Kilner Authors Lead Editorial in Sunday's
Washington Times
Chicago, Illinois -
May 10, 2002 - In opinion piece by Center President John
Kilner will run as the lead editorial in this Sunday's Washington
Times Forum section. The article discusses the ethical issues
surrounding the attempt by a lesbian couple to create a genetically
deaf child.
In the article, Dr. Kilner comments, "If we
now say that parents can cause their children to be without hearing,
then we are saying that parents' preferences are all that matters.
They can cause whatever harm to their child they wish, as long as
they get enough benefit from doing so. Now is the time to draw the
line."
For those who are unable to access the
piece, the entire article will be published in the next issue of the
Center's newsletter "Dignity" which is mailed to all Center
supporters.
