CBHD Board of Trustees Appoints Dr. Andrew Fergusson as President/CEO

The Board of Trustees of The Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity is very pleased to announce that Dr. Andrew Fergusson has been appointed President/CEO.

Dr. Fergusson has been a physician since 1975, graduating from St. Thomas’s Hospital Medical School, University of London. Following 14 years of clinical practice, he became head of the Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF) in the United Kingdom where he became a major voice in bioethics on the British scene. Dr. Fergusson did as many as 100 radio and television broadcasts per year during that time. He also served for nine years as chair of the anti-euthanasia coalition, HOPE, Healthcare Opposed to Euthanasia, and as CMF’s Strategy Advisor on Euthanasia.

Since 2000, Dr. Fergusson has had a portfolio career at the interface of medicine and Christianity and from 1999-2003 he served as a member of Britain’s General Medical Council, the statutory body regulating the medical profession in the UK.

Very active in the bioethics arena, both in education and public policy, Dr. Fergusson is a much sought after speaker and debater. He has published journal articles, serves on the international advisory board of Ethics & Medicine: An International Journal of Bioethics, and is the author of three books, the latest of which was published in March of this year under the title: Hard Questions about Health and Healing. Dr. Fergusson is regularly called upon by media to comment on important bioethics cases, including most recently an appearance on CNN International on the Terri Schiavo case.

Andrew and his wife, Catrin, are the parents of two children and presently live in a suburb of London. Dr. Fergusson will assume his duties as President and CEO in September. At that time, as previously announced, current CBHD president Dr. John Kilner will become the Director of Bioethics Programs and Professor of Bioethics at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois, while remaining actively involved in the Center's work as Senior Scholar.
