The idea of biobanking and biorepositories are relatively new topics of study. Biobanks store DNA, RNA, and genetic information including tissue and fluid samples. This paper will discuss the different types and purposes of biobanks, the types of ownership and funding organizations, and the benefits and applications of this type of research. However, the primary focus of this paper will be the ethical implications of such scientific research in today’s health care system and in the present age of information. This paper will analyze biobanks and the concerns that go along with them in order to fully comprehend the importance or harm to the common good of people or the health care system.
