CBHD Research Library
The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity (CBHD) is pleased to open our Research Library to faculty, staff, and students of LeTourneau University, as well as to guests of the Center and the general public.
Hours of Operation
The Research Library is located in the Rolfing Library and is generally open year-round Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:30pm on days in which the Deerfield, IL campus of Trinity International University (TIU) is formally open. As a result, visitors may wish to contact the Center staff to confirm specific dates of availability. For specific policies related to the use of our non-circulating collection and Research Library, please consult the Research Library Use Policies upon your arrival. Additionally, the Research Library may be opened by appointment for usage outside of normal operating hours at the discretion of the Center’s staff. About Our Collection
The various collections in CBHD’s Research Library are non-circulating. Our ever-expanding general collection contains over 2400 volumes and a variety of periodicals that offer a unique blend of bioethics, theological ethics, biblical studies, philosophy, and technology ethics. To browse our general collection, please visit our electronic catalog on Zotero. In addition to our general resources, our Research Library also includes the Edmund D. Pellegrino Special Collection in Medical Ethics and Philosophy and the Presidential Bioethics Commission Collection. The Center has received several donations of books and other resources. If you are interested in donating resources to our library, please contact our research team (research@cbhd.org).
our origins
In 1993, more than a dozen leading Christian bioethicists gathered to assess the noticeable lack of explicit Christian engagement in the crucial bioethics arena. This group sponsored a major conference in May 1994, "The Christian Stake in Bioethics," and concurrently launched The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity. In 2007, CBHD formally became a center of Trinity International University.

Research Environment
The primary purpose of CBHD’s Research Library is twofold: a) to facilitate the scholarship of CBHD; and b) to foster collaborative scholarship in areas relevant to Christian bioethics. The Research Library is not intended as a quiet reading room, though visitors should be aware that the Research Library is part of CBHD’s general office environment.
Workstation Reservations
Materials left on the tables are shelved on a daily basis. Individuals intending to utilize the Research Library over a period of time may request the usage of one of the two work stations to store resources for extended research. These work stations are available upon request on a "first come" basis. Please contact us for a reservation request at info@cbhd.org or call us at 847-317-8180. Individuals requesting extended access to our Research Library for sabbatical research or other formal periods of research leave may be permitted to utilize our Visiting Scholar office which can support up to two researchers.
