Ever-evolving developments in medicine, science, and technology present conceptual, evaluative, and practical challenges that are not only bioethical in nature, but also raise foundational questions about what it means to be human in an age of science and advanced medical technologies. In addition to contextualizing the preceding plenary sessions, this session examines the prospects and implications for reframing such bioethical analysis in light of an emphasis on being and remaining human. Attention will be given to the ethical and theological dimensions of our individual and common humanity and their practical implications for the use of biomedicine, biotechnology, and other emerging technologies.
