The topic of bioethics and the body is vast, requiring multiple levels of description, interrogation, reflection, and discussion. One aim of this conference is, at least, to provide a core of understanding that might inform just such work. As the final plenary address of the conference, this talk will draw upon and suggest additional context for the lectures, presentations, and discussions that preceded it while seeking to recapitulate, summarize, and recast particular items essential for a fuller understanding of this important realm. In addition, and perhaps most importantly, the address will present a number of specific points regarding the consideration of the nexus of the field of bioethics and the human body for additional study. The lecture will pay particular attention to ways in which developments in medicine, science, and technology, some of which may only now be on the far horizon, will affect such considerations, and it will map out suggestions for possible routes toward such inquiry.
