While the sanctity of life has, for some time, been an important message in the local church, its basis in the idea of human dignity, flowing from the biblical teaching of the image of God, has yielded little educational content for use in the local church toward the larger Christian bioethics agenda. As a matter of strategy, church women’s ministries can be seen as one effective pathway for pew-level bioethics education. With matters of bioethics resting so squarely on the lives of women, the logic of this position seems clear. However, while having a clear vision for any corridor of education is helpful, the significant challenge remains related to the availability of resources and the equipping of leaders. The general purpose of the CBHD Church Bioethics Council is to confront this challenge by spearheading a mission to meet this need through the development and distribution of resources for all general ministry areas in the local church. Come hear more about the Church Bioethics Council, its desired impact on everyday lives in the local church and beyond, and ways you might wish to participate in this community.
