In her paper “Goals for Health and Healing”, Inetta Schuetz wrestles with the inexact science of end of life decisions as seen through the lens of personal experiences. By exploring such questions as, “what is ‘health’?”, and, “who should make the tough decisions?”, Ms. Schuetz ventures into the muddled conversation that arises between doctors, patients, family, and the church, when the decision of life or death is upon someone. What she finds lacking is the delivery of information to the patients and their families, the ones who most often must make the difficult decisions. Not to be lost in all of this is the important role of what God has to say to us about health and suffering through scripture. In seeking the information personally, Ms. Schuetz calls upon both Churches and doctors to not only educate themselves, but also those under their care.
