Bioethics applies the principles of the Science of Ethics to protect and preserve life and postpone death. With this the stage is set to identify the life of the person on earth, which is a continuum from conception until its natural end. To hasten, cause or impose death is not part of good medical treatment and care. This paper discusses life as a reality and is whole and entire in the whole and in each part. It defines death, the physical aspects of the brain, the origination of and definitions and criteria of brain death. In addition to confounding what functions with its functioning, the criteria for “brain death” introduce further obfuscation through the use of the term “irreversibility” and its cognates. Recent investigations and research are discussed along with a case study.
