The majority of courses in bioethics focus on issues and challenges faced by healthcare professionals. These courses may benefit those pursuing science as a profession, especially in the life sciences. However, an informal qualitative study of undergraduate science majors at a major Christian college suggested these courses may not adequately address some issues of importance to professional research scientists. In the spring of 2013, a new short-course was offered as the first step in addressing this gap. The course used case studies, film, guided interviews, and discussion to teach critical and ethical thinking related to the role and practice of science and corresponding ethical issues from a Christian worldview. Topics included the role and philosophy of science and scientific professionalism. Each student presented and led class discussion on an individual project on a topic their choice to demonstrate their ability to apply what they had learned.
