Bioethics impacts the practice of most physicians in America. As those doctors who interact with and treat people from womb to tomb, family medicine residents and physicians will especially and inevitably face ethical situations and dilemmas in their practices. This session will review the experience of the Sioux City Family Medicine Residency in teaching bioethics to residents over the last 12 years. The program will discuss the history of teaching bioethics at the SMEF residency, the relevance of bioethics, the content of the teaching, the methodologies that have proved helpful, and the positive and negative outcomes of the experience. The session will be relevant to any educators who are engaged in ethics teaching in health-care settings.
