This practical session will discuss the legal issues that potentially and/or actually affect health professionals and pastoral caregivers in the context of caring for a person who is facing imminent or actual loss of capacity.  The discussion will include practical guidance on dealing with patients and their family members.  This session will also cover the issues surrounding the design and use of disability planning documents, such as advance directives, powers of attorney, and living wills, with a particular emphasis on planning for Christian clients/patients.  To illustrate these issues and situations, this session will include the use of one or more general case studies, including use of the Terri Schiavo case.
