There has been little examination of evangelical attitudes regarding human enhancement. A survey was sent to 789 households in the Midwest District of the Evangelical Free Church of America with 150 responding. Inquiry was made regarding levels of support for genetic testing with and without the availability of genetic therapy, as well as future enhancement technologies such as life extension, neural networks, cross-species DNA mixing, and asexual reproduction. The respondents expressed lower levels of support for some areas of genetic testing and therapy as well as human enhancement when compared to previous studies, although the results are mixed. There is some suggestion that support for genetic testing is similar for physical traits but lower for behavioral traits when compared to the previous studies. Further study is needed to delineate the boundaries of support for various forms of biotechnological interventions in this group. Additional work can also be done to look at other groups of evangelicals to see if these findings are descriptive of evangelicals across the board.
