Evangelical pastors who are confident about leading their congregations on bioethical issues may develop through three phases of becoming. The first is exploration, or becoming aware, followed by proficiency, becoming confident. Some pastors, characterized by courage and elevated trust, develop mastery, becoming accomplished. Their path in growing in wisdom begins during seminary with apprenticed wisdom, practiced wisdom during their pastorate, and embodied wisdom for those who become leaders within and beyond their congregation. A bioethical leadership paradigm is a way to describe the intellectual, spiritual, and experiential resources the pastor draws on as a bioethical leader. Theological education has a central role in ethics education, helping the seminarian develop a biblical and theological foundation for bioethics, stimulating lifelong learning, and providing stimulating learning experiences that connect theory with practice
