Scientific discovery and related technologies are advancing at a pace that can far exceed that of ethical evaluation and theological and philosophical reflection. It is therefore critical for the scientific community to engage with public thought leaders and religious communities, to gain both wisdom and societal support for ethical uses of scientific advancement. And yet these interactions can be challenging, given underlying perceptions between scientific and religious communities toward one another that can sometimes hamper fruitful dialogue. I will present some case studies of forefront scientific discoveries that are of particular interest to religious and ethical concerns, and discuss how one major scientific society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, is building positive dialogue and better understanding between scientific and religious communities.
