CBHD’s 2025 annual conference, Living in the Biotech Century: The First 25 Years, enjoyed another increase in conference attendees this year.
Brent Waters, DPhil opened the conference with the third annual Virtue Ethics Lecture, “In Praise of Mundane Healthcare.”
Other plenary speakers included Maureen Condic, PhD; Nigel Cameron, PhD; Ewan Goligher, MD, PhD; Paul Dassow, MD; James Heid, MD; as well as representatives from CBHD’s Chinese Bioethics Initiative.
Other Events and Activities
In February CBHD hosted its 14th annual Academy of Fellows consultation, For the Good of the Church.
In March and April, CBHD staff hosted separate book discussions for Trinity’s Deerfield campus community and CBHD Members on Aldus Huxley’s classic work Brave New World.
In May, the Center hosted its first online, multi-week cohort on the topic of AI. With over 70 participants, this was a rousing success!

Presented a five-week series on “Basics of Bioethics for Believers” at Village Church of Lincolnshire, Lake Forest, IL.
Spoke on “The Sanctity of Life” for Westlake Christian Academy, Grayslake, IL.
Presented “Bioethics Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” for the International Christian Medical and Dental Association.
Provided Testimony Regarding Illinois Senate Bill 9, End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act, before the Illinois Senate Executive Committee.
Presented a four-week AI Workshop at Pathway Church, Arlington Heights, IL.
Hosted a discussion with Chaplain (Brigadier General) Charles M. Causey, Deputy Chief of Chaplains, United States Army Reserve, for Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
Spoke on reproductive technologies and assisted suicide at the Illinois March for Life, Illinois State Capital, Springfield, IL.
Appeared as a guest on CMDA’s The Voice of Advocacy podcast to discuss bioethics, public policy, and the work of CBHD.
Attended CMDA’s National Conference and hosted a Trinity Bioethics Alumni Gathering in St. Charles, MO.
Presented a four-week cohort on artificial intelligence as a joint project of CBHD and TEDS.
Participated in a panel discussion on artificial intelligence at the Lakelight Institute in Lake Forest, IL.
Presented two workshops on reproductive technology for EFCA One in West Des Moines, IA.
